Ode to WHJ
Quick back story: In April, I was scheduled to take some weekly art classes. In lieu of the virus, of course the in person option became unavailable. This piece I created as a study piece to work on my skills and also to pay homage to one of my favorite visual artists, William H. Johnson who is a fellow native South Carolinian. Right before the virus shut everything down, a statue of Johnson's likeness was erected and dedicated in his hometown of Florence, SC. This prompted me to revisit his work, and I was fascinated. The original work is titled 'Lady with Sunflowers'. I call mine 'Ode to WHJ'. It was completed in April 2020.
